The plastic surgeon answers the most frequently asked questions about plastic surgery. In the end, if anyone knows, it’s him! So, in this article he talks to us about the most common mistakes in plastic surgery. We asked him everything — from the most popular procedures among celebrities, to his advice, to the surgeries with the lowest risks! Here is everything you need to know.
What is the biggest and most common plastic surgery mistake people make?
The most common mistake people make is having unrealistic expectations and expecting more than what a doctor can offer. That is why it is important to visit an experienced doctor who can accurately identify the problem and provide the appropriate solution.
Which procedures are most common among celebrities?
Most of them generally get a light amount of fillers, micro-needling with PRP, and hydrafacials. There are several treatments offered, such as CoolSculpting, radiofrequency, tightening facials for the face and body using specialized devices. For surgical plastic procedures, they often choose fat transfer as well as upper and lower blepharoplasty. Don’t forget that a good facelift must be performed by an experienced surgeon in order for you to have the desired results and for the outcome to look completely natural.
Are there surgery requests you have declined?
Yes. In fact, I refuse to perform certain procedures on about 5–7% of patients each week. If patients come in with unrealistic expectations, such as placing implants in areas where they shouldn’t be or in an excessive degree, then I will likely refuse to proceed with the surgery.
Is it true that some people remove their lower ribs to have a smaller waist?
We have had patients who actually wanted their lower ribs removed; however, we do not perform that. It is not a surgical procedure I would recommend to anyone.
Which treatment has the shortest recovery time with the greatest result?
Fat transfer is definitely a wonderful plastic surgery procedure because even with some swelling, the results are fantastic. Upper blepharoplasty is also a good surgical option, which can make someone look — without exaggeration — 10 or more years younger.
Which surgical procedures carry the highest risk?
Breast implants carry a small risk of capsular contracture. A surgery on the buttocks also carries a low risk because a small piece of fat can enter a vein and potentially cause a pulmonary embolism. Even fillers carry a risk of tissue necrosis. All of these, of course, are more likely to occur with an inexperienced plastic surgeon.
Which procedures carry the lowest risk?
Every procedure has its own risks. Don’t forget that even though we’re talking about cosmetic surgery, it is still surgery — unless you choose a non-invasive treatment, such as mesotherapy, Botox, hyaluronic acid, Aqualyx fat dissolving, etc.
What should you keep in mind before undergoing any invasive plastic surgery procedure?
The most important thing is to do your research. Research the plastic surgeon, learn about the specific procedure, check before-and-after photos. You should also make sure the surgeon is a specialist in the field and that the doctor you choose is certified in that specific plastic surgery. The clinic should also have strong credentials with experienced staff and must, of course, follow all hygiene and sterilization protocols. Finally, I always insist that all patients, before surgery, have an in-depth conversation with the surgeon so that your expectations match reality.
