Acne Scar Correction

The treatment of acne scars is a solution for the problems of men and women of all ages. Acne primarily appears during adolescence and is a skin condition that most commonly occurs on the face, chest, and back. Often, in addition to teenagers, it can also affect older men and women.

Acne – General Information

The main factors that cause acne are poor diet, certain hormonal imbalances, and intense stress. The scars caused by acne result from the disruption of the skin’s continuity, which leads to exposure of the dermis.

The pores become excessively swollen, causing ruptures in the walls of the follicles. If the rupture is superficial, then the scars are mild and heal quite quickly. If the rupture in the walls of the follicles is deeper, various infectious agents penetrate the stroma, resulting in the destruction of healthy tissues.

Types of Acne Scars

Acne scars can be divided into two main categories. The first category is when the scars are characterized by excessive tissue formation. The second category is where the scars are caused by tissue loss.

The first category of scars, which as we mentioned is caused by an increase in tissue, is called keloids or hypertrophic scars. More specifically, we can say that they are due to the deposition of collagen, one of the essential structural substances of the skin. Hypertrophic scars are characterized by a mass of fibrous tissue that protrudes from the surrounding epidermis and has a smoother surface.

The type of scars created by tissue loss is called atrophic scars and macular scars.

Acne Scar Treatment – Therapy

Scars from acne treatment can be significantly improved with the use of a special super pulsed CO₂ laser.

This type of laser emits high-energy light beams that directly target the deeper structures of the skin. It provides a smooth appearance by destroying the superficial layers of the skin while simultaneously activating the production of collagen and elastin. The treatment has a flawless aesthetic result and heals scars in just a few sessions. Plastic surgeon Dr. Tsakonis is available to evaluate your case regarding the treatment of acne scars.
