Vaginoplasty – What is it?

Vaginoplasty aims to restore harmony in the sensitive area. It includes a broader range of surgical procedures that involve the plastic surgery of the internal and external labia, as well as vaginoplasty. Its main goal is to enhance the appearance in the pubic area and improve the quality of life for women. Various types of deformities in the genital organs undoubtedly have huge impacts on a woman’s psychology and daily life. Many women have different kinds of problems due to deformities in the area. Therefore, it is not only the aesthetic aspect that could lead us to consider a vaginoplasty procedure. Many of those affected are unable to enjoy athletic activities (due to friction), wear the clothes they would like, or enjoy sexual intercourse. These deformities can, in various cases, cause irritations, intense discomfort, infections, and even pain.

Advantages

Vaginoplasty aims to reduce the size of the labia that exhibit sagging. The size usually depends on genetic factors. However, in several cases, it changes due to hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, and also with the passage of time. Labiaplasty has made tremendous strides in recent years and has evolved to its fullest. All the innovative techniques and the use of lasers make vaginal plastic surgery a routine procedure, with a short recovery time and without significant discomfort. The procedure can truly work a small miracle in your daily life and psychology. The advantages of labiaplasty are that:

  • it increases the self-confidence of every woman as it directly solves any aesthetic problem.
  • it is painless.
  • it is a very quick procedure as it requires only 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.
  • it leaves no marks or scars.
  • it has a short recovery time.
  • the degree of complications is very low.
  • it provides a high level of satisfaction for women.

What does vaginoplasty cover?

The vaginoplasty can change the anatomy of the vulva, concerning the labia majora and minora according to your needs and desires. More specifically, the most common issues we encounter in the genital area are:

  • Enlarged labia of the clitoris or vulva: This is the most frequent and perhaps one of the most bothersome issues for women, causing significant anxiety during sexual intercourse and affecting their psychology.
  • Vaginal laxity: A relaxed vagina can greatly affect both the woman’s and the man’s sexual pleasure, leading to problems during intercourse.
  • Aesthetic issue in the perineum: The perineum is the area located between the anus and the vagina. The aesthetic appearance of this area may be altered due to aging or childbirth.

Labiaplasty of the minor labia

What I need to know

The labia minora are located at the entrance of the female vagina, situated between the labia majora and in a parallel position. They extend from the clitoris to the lower part of the vaginal entrance. In this way, they close and protect against microbes. In anatomically normal cases, the labia minora do not exceed the size of the labia majora. Often, however, this ratio does not exist due to age, structural, or hormonal factors, and thus the labia minora may protrude significantly beyond the labia majora. There are also instances where we encounter disproportionate sizes, meaning hypertrophy in only one of the labia. These deformities cause several problems for women. Initially, on a psychological level, as they feel insecure about their bodies, and secondly, functional problems during sexual intercourse.

Where is labiaplasty performed?

Labial plastic surgery for labia minora is now a routine procedure, completely safe and without significant discomfort. The procedure is performed in the office with local anesthesia, or in some cases in the clinic with a combination of sedation and local anesthesia. Recovery is quite short, and you can return home shortly after the procedure.

How does it happen?

The procedure of labiaplasty is performed by removing the excess skin of the vulva. The incisions are particularly small, very well hidden, and made parallel to the labia majora. The shape of the incision depends on each case, but it does not affect the aesthetic appearance of the area at all.

Labiaplasty of the labia minora with Laser

A pioneering technique is also laser labiaplasty, which is indicated for cases with a smaller extent of the problem. The procedure is performed with a special laser, with which we achieve the reduction and tightening of the labia minora without the need for stitches and surgical incisions. Naturally, this method cannot address issues that require the removal of excess tissue or skin.

Postoperative course

Labiaplasty is a completely safe, quick, and painless procedure, and the sensitivity of the area is not reduced in any way. Additionally, the recovery period is quite short, and usually, women who undergo the procedure can return to their sexual activity after about three weeks. The intensity of the pain is mild and can be managed with analgesics. The stitches we use are absorbable and do not need to be removed. Of course, as with any surgery, we recommend some caution with intense activities during the first few days.

Labiaplasty of the Labia Majora

Labialoplasty - Purpose

The labiaplasty of the labia majora aims to give a younger appearance to the perineal area. With the most modern techniques, we achieve the visual and anatomical rejuvenation of the area, without postoperative scars. This procedure involves the skin folds at the sides of the vaginal entrance, from the pubis to the anus on the outer side of the labia minora. The labia majora also serve as a protective shield against bacteria and minor injuries, as they contain a layer of protective fat. Frequent fluctuations in weight and the passage of time cause the skin of the labia majora to become lax. As a result, we have an image of an aged perineal area. Additionally, many women are born with hypertrophy of the labia. Thus, women’s insecurities increase over time. Moreover, the anxiety of rejection from a partner rises when they believe that the appearance of their genital organs is not attractive.

Where is it happening?

The procedure is performed in our office with local anesthesia, and if deemed necessary, with a combination of local anesthesia and sedation. In cases that require a more extensive surgical intervention, there is the possibility of needing general anesthesia in a clinic. The labiaplasty typically lasts about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours.

How is labiaplasty performed?

The technique we will use depends on the size and type of the problem, as well as the preferences of each woman. The procedure is painless and completely safe. Mainly, the goal of the procedure is to remove excess tissue and skin to reduce size and achieve the desired appearance in the area. In some cases, if the wrinkling due to atrophy of the labia is significant, we then choose fat grafting as a solution. This way, we restore their firmness and make them look more youthful. The incisions are almost invisible as they follow the natural folds of the vulva. The removal of tissue and skin does not affect sensitivity in this area.

Postoperative course

The recovery from the procedure is almost painless and very short in duration. Usually, there is simply a slight discomfort in the area, which can be managed immediately with common pain relievers. In a few cases, there might be mild swelling and small bruises, but these subside in just a few days. Right after the plastic surgery, we apply cool compresses with chamomile (decongestive & soothing effect) to the area. For just a few days, we recommend frequent washing of the sensitive area with mild antiseptics. Additionally, for a short period, one should avoid intense physical exercise, although there is no need to refrain from other daily activities. The final result is truly impressive, and women’s sexual desire and confidence significantly increase.
